Here’s the part most people miss. In a lot of newer Manatee County homes, the air handler, the part of your AC that actually makes the cold air, sits elevated in the garage. On a Florida afternoon that garage runs 115 to 130°, and that unit is trying to turn its own blazing-hot surroundings into 58–62° air to push through your vents. It’s a car radiator trying to cool an engine on the surface of the sun: it can’t win when everything around it is that hot.
And it doesn’t stop there. Your attached garage often shares 600 to 800 square feet of wall with your living space, and the garage itself, heated by the hot roof and attic above it, runs hotter than the outdoors, so that heat pushes straight into the rooms next to it. Insulating the garage and the space around the air handler is what finally lets the AC you paid for keep up.

Often, yes. Builders insulate to code minimums, not Florida-optimal levels, and garages and bonus rooms are almost always the weak point. A free check tells you for certain, no obligation.
Won’t my builder’s warranty cover it?
